House moving etc

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

So this it it, i’ve moved back to manchester (the exact whereabouts are need to know ;) ) – that’s why i haven’t been blogging. Now i’m mostly set up back to normal, although a lot of my stuff has gone home due to me now not needing it.

My big TV and mediacentre have ended up in the lounge – mostly due to not having the space in my room, but it also now has 4 tuners meaning we can each record somthing we want to see which is pretty cool.

Networking wise, things are pretty crazy, but as long as the internet works i can’t say i’m too fussed, getting my webserver/pbx/mailserver backup was a bit annoying – i’m having to port forward down a VPN just to get it to work (and consequently, all the website hits appear to be coming from my firewall and not anywhere just on the web so i don’t get proper stats anymore).

My 22″ Dell Ultrasharp arrived at work (it’s still there) and it’s an extremely good monitor, definatly worth the extra money for an Ultrasharp. It will make it’s way home eventually, probably when i get around to building my new PC – somthing fast Core2 based i think, but with 8 gigs of ram.

It’s also far too hot, being in the loft of the house, i seem to collect all the heat, even with both the skylights open, but nevermind, it’s probably just an illusion as the weather does seem to have picked up rather sharply recently.

I’ll be home-home in a couple of weeks, with a car load of stuff i don’t need down here – mostly empty boxes. I’m really tempted to bring my CD player back with me (even though i just sent it up there) as i do enjoy listning to CDs rather than the PC. The other problem is where to put the speakers, i don’t have the space to fit them beside my desk so it may end up being a wall mounted job but we’ll see.

Work wise, we’re as busy as ever, but things should be cooling off within the next week or two.

Anyways, that’s it for now, oh, one last thing – VOIP number, email and website are back in full operation.
