So here we are, the last of the beers from www.beermerchants.com. This time it’s the Mort Subite Kriek, so without further ado, here’s what the tasting notes said:

Mort Subite Kriek is an easy drinking and soft, cherry-sweet, oaky, Extra Cherry Lambiek Fruit beer. Best served in a branded straight glass aat 6-8C. Good with meat balls and venison.

So the last beer, yes or no?. Unfortunately, it’s a no. A disappointing beer really and not one i’ll be buying again. (250ml Bottle, 4.5%).

So we’ve reached the end of our tour of Belgium in Fruit, however, i can at least reccommend many of the beers i have tried, all of which are available from www.beermerchants.com I can also confirm that the Mongozo Banana is available in Tesco, along with the Fruili Strawberry, Jacobins Kriek Max, Bocchus Kriek and Boccus Framboise. ASDA have the Lindemans Kriek and Framboise.

So if you’re interested, go forth and conquer, a basic Kriek is around £1.50-2 a bottle so it won’t break the bank to give it a go.

Preamble: We’re reaching the end of the case now, only one more new beer to go, the Mort Subite Kriek. However, here and now, i’m talking about the Boon Kriek. After the disappointment of the Framboise from the Boon company, i was hoping for better this time around. Nevertheless, here are the tasting notes:

Boon Kriek is an easy drinking and fresh, cherry-sweet, oaky, Extra Cherry Lambiek Fruit beer. Best served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C. Good with rabbit or cured ham.

The first thing i need to say is that this is a much better beer than the Framboise. Well balanced and flavoured, not too strong and not too weak. It’s not as good as the Kriek Max or the Lindemans Kriek but nevertheless, a good beer. Recommended (375ml Bottle, 4%).

The final Framboise in the case, Lindemans. Now, i’ve actually had this before as it’s available in ASDA (along with the Kriek). But this is what the distributor had to say on the matter:

Lindemans Framboise is an easy drinking and smooth, tart, raspberry-sweet, Single Raspberry Lambiek Fruit Beer. Best served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C. Good with summer fruit pudding and sorbet.

On tasting this beer, i was relieved, my faith in raspberries has been restored. The beer is full tasting, fruity and refreshing with just the right amount of bite. Excellent flavour and drinkability. Recommended. (250ml Bottle, 2.5%, Availability: ASDA).

Here i was expecting a nice follow on from the Floris i had earlier, however, i was surprised when i took my first tentative sips of this beer. But first, the tasting notes:

Boon Framboise is an easy drinking and subtle, raspberry-sweet, oaky, Extra Raspberry Lambiek Fruit beer. Best served in a branded champagne-style glass at 3-5C. Good with fruit pudding and salads.

Unfortunately, this is one of those occasions where i have to say i did not enjoy this beer. First of all, it’s not like a beer, it’s more like a wine. It’s also the strongest of the beers in the case at 5% and it really does taste it. This beer may be to your taste, but it certainly wasn’t to me or any of my housemates. (375ml Bottle, 5%).

We’re into the final leg of our fruit beer tour now, finishing up with the Framboises and the Krieks. Right now, i’m having the Floris Framboise. The tasting notes had this to say:

Floris Framboise is an easy drinking and zippy, raspberry-sweet, Single Raspberry White Fruti beer. Best served in a brande straight glass at 3-5C with the sediment. Good with raspberry jelly and salads.

The first thing i’ll say is that it’s strong, oh yes, you *know* it’s raspberry flavoured alright. That said at first it didn’t appeal to me, however, on working my way through the rest of the bottle, it’s grown on me. The main surprise really is that it’s quite tangy and sharp rather than fruity per se. However. Recommended. (330ml Bottle, 3.6%)

This beer joins us from a well known brewary – Lindemans. I’ve been drinking their Kriek for quite a while now, (you can get it in ASDA), and it’s been rather good. Based on my reaction to the Kriek, Framboise and the Pecheresse, i thought that this too would also be a nice beer. So, the tasting notes:

Lindemans Cassis is an easy drinking and soothing, fruity-tart, Single Cassis Lambiek Fruit beer. Best served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C. Good with confit of duck and salads.

On tasting this beer, i was sadly disappointed, it was like someone had spilled vimpto into my beer. While it was very sharp, there was little in the way of fruit flavour. So this is one Lindemans beer i won’t be buying again. That’s not to say you wouldn’t enjoy it, my housemate liked it more than i did, however, even he conceded that it wasn’t his favourite. (250ml Bottle, 3.5%)

I’d orginally confused this beer with Creme-de-Cassis which is a liqueur of the same flavour and should ideally be mixed with Champagne to form a Kir Royale.

Preamble: We’ve moved on from the Floris brand, to Lindemans again. Now i’ve been a fan of Lindemans Kriek for some time so i was looking forward to trying this Peach flavoured beer. So here’s what the tasting notes said:

Lindemans Pecheresse is an easy drinking and wine-like, tart, peach-sweet, Extra peach Lambiek Fruit beer. Best served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C. Good with Foie grass and puddings.

On pouring the beer, it had a good aroma, peachy but not too strong. Immediatly on the first sip it tastes extremely refreshing and light. It’s definitely peach flavoured, but not overpoweringly so. This is an excellent beer from Lindemans. Recommended. (250ml Bottle, 2.5%).

More beer! This time Floris Ninkeberry (and i’m running out of witty things to say about beer). Now, what a Ninkeberry is, is anyone’s guess – the internet didn’t reveal anything clever (just things like it’s a mixture of mango and passion fruit, or it’s a mix of forest fruits), but judging by the image on the bottle, it’s a pomegranate. The tasting notes said this:

Floris Ninkeberry is an easy drinking and exotic, tropical citrus-sweet, Single White Tropical Fruit beer. Best served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C, with the sediment. Good with cured salmon and fruit beer.

Unfortunately, i found this to be much like the Floris Mango – a disappointing larger type taste with little flavour, it was quite refreshing – for a larger, it’s just not to my taste. My housemate however loved it, so while it’s not for me, it may be for you. (330ml Bottle, 3.6%).

Another night, another beer. This time the Passion fruit flavour.  The tasting notes had this to say:

Floris Passion is an easy drinking and exciting, tangy, tropical-sweet, Extra White Passion Fruit beer. Best served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C, with the sediment. Good with fruit pudding and duck.

Tangy. Oh my god it’s tangy. Not really to my taste, however, the balance of beer to passion fruit was quite nice, but it did have a bit of a bite! Not so recommended, but if you like your beer to have kick (in the non-alcoholic sense) then it may be for you. (330ml Bottle, 3.6%)

So we’re onto another beer, this time Floris Apple, the distributors had this to say:

Floris Apple is an easy drinking and fresh, apple-sweet, Single Apple White Fruit beer. Best Served in a branded straight glass at 3-5C, with the sediment. Good with port and goat cheese.

This beer is a much improvement on the Floris Mango, with the taste being strong enough for flavour, yet not so strong it’s overpowering. It has a refreshing taste and has certainly renewed my confidence in the Floris range over the mango. I suspect the extended chilling time that the Apple has had may have improved the flavour, i will make sure to give the same treatment to the next ones. Reccommended. (330ml Bottle, 3.6%).
